I was born in Buffalo (still have snow in my blood) but I grew up in Sarasota, attending school at Pine View, which back then was a mere grouping of portable trailers. Today that school has a permanent campus in Venice. (Sure, wait to put up REAL buildings until after I graduate!)
I began my broadcasting career when I was sixteen (really). Then for a long while, nothing much happened. One day I got bored so I filled out a University Of Florida admissions application on a drunken dare. Due to what must've been a MASSIVE computer malfunction or possibly a severe bout of cholera plaguing the admissions office in 1988, I was actually accepted! After nine years I received my four-year degree, and to this day I still bleed orange and blue in honor of my alma mater and my beloved Gators. (What is it with me and references to blood?)
Today I enjoy hosting/co-hosting two different radio programs, the "Todd and Bob Show" with my partner of many years, Bob Alexander on KIX Country 92.9 FM - and of course an afternoon oldies show here on WKII. I also serve as Operations Manager for Clear Channel Punta Gorda, a rewarding position indeed! I never minded cleaning the toilets at the station, but the day they promoted me and gave me gloves and a brush...well I still get a little misty eyed!
Seriously, I guess you could say radio broadcasting has always been in my blood. My father was an early radio and television pioneer in the 50's, and I can still vividly remember playing my first 45 rpm record on my dad's hi-fi when I was three! (By the way, it was the Archies "Sugar, Sugar")
I started playing "the oldies" when I was a teenager and my father gave ame a summer job at a station he managed. All me peers were listening to heavy metal and other torturous forms of music, but I was right back where I came from - the great songs of the 50's, 60's and 70's. In fact I was working for an all oldies station many years ago when the owner came to me and gave me two options: either embrace and help them change to a country-music station, or find a new job. That's how I got my start in country music, which I still love to this day. Also, that is.
I've occasionally dabbled in the vintage car hobby, although I don't own any right now. I sold my "collection" (if you can call 3 classics a collection) in order to buy a house a few years ago and the economy has not been friendly enough to allow me to get back into the hobby quite yet. I used to attend all the local car shows with one or more of my beauties where my car's sound system would crank out a continuous stream of golden oldies. It's that plus my well know passion for muscle-cars and collectibles that garnered me the nickname of "Hot Rod Todd," which I still use as a handle today even though my garage is a little more empty than in years past.
So that's the whole story. I hope you enjoy the music we play and the fun we have each weekday afternoon from 2-6 PM. And if not, please use the email link above to let me know!
